Dunnellon Chiropractor Dr. Cheryl Stanley demonstrates an exercise to relieve back pain.

This exercise is a simple exercise you can do at home and does not require any equipment.

The exercise will increase muscular endurance and lower back strength.  It will also help in injury prevention and improved stability.  It stregthens the oblique, erector spinae, multifidus, and transverse abdominus muscles.

To begin lie on your back face up.

Extend your arms above your head onto the floor or table you are lying on.

Activate your core and lift your knees above your hips and maintain 90/90 degress of hip and knee position.

Activate core.

Lift one arm off the floor or table and raise it towards the ceiling while extending the opposite leg downward to the floor.  However do not let the leg touch the floor.

Pause and hold for approximately 1-3 seconds.

Return to start position, alternating sides.
